Community Co-Directors: Michael Kowalchuk, senior planner at the City of Saskatoon, joins Colleen Christopherson-Cote as Community Co-Directors. Our sincere thanks to both and also to Roy Lavallee, City of Saskatoon, for his term as Community-Co-Director. We are grateful for your good guidance and commitment to CUISR and its strategic research.


CUISR researchers lead studies in a SSHRC-CMHC-funded Partnership grant worth $4.8 million, 2023-2028
 

In March 2023, SSHRC announced that the application for the SSHRC-CMHC-funded Partnership grant entitled A Safe and Affordable Place to Call Home: A Multi-disciplinary Longitudinal Outcomes Analysis of the National Housing Strategy was fully funded at $4.8M over 5 years. The Principal Investigators at Carleton University are Drs. Liam o'Brien and Jackie Kennelly; the CUISR researchers and co-applicants are Dr. Isobel M. Findlay (Edwards School of Business), Dr. Nazeem Muhajarine (College of Medicine), and Professor Sarah Buhler, College of Law.

  • Haven Family Connections

  • National Affordable Housing Corporation

  • Saskatoon Poverty Reduction Partnership

Dr. Muhajarine will continue to be a co-lead on the analysis of the Canadian Housing Survey, while Dr. Findlay is leading the national theme,  Health, Social and Economic Outcomes. Other themes include: 

  • Climate impacts and mitigation

  • Indigenous and Northern housing

  • Alternative housing solutions

  • Housing financing

 

Overall study objectives include these: 

  • Assess effectiveness of approaches to housing as a human right

  • Investigate the three major funding vehicles outlined in the National Housing Strategy (NHS)
